What is the difference between deportation and removal?
They are the same thing. 'Removal' is the current legal term for what most people call deportation — the process in immigration court by which the government seeks to make someone leave the country. Defenses and relief (cancellation, asylum, adjustment, waivers) are pursued in that proceeding. If the person is detained, a bond hearing can seek release while the case proceeds.
